Montgomery College will host a panel discussion moderated by former Congresswoman Connie Morella with a lineup that includes former US cabinet members from the Ronald Reagan and the Bill Clinton administrations. The “State of the Senate” discussion will take place on Monday, October 1, at 7 p.m. in the Theater Arts Arena, Rockville Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
The panel includes:
Senator Bill Brock – Republican National Committee Chair, Reagan era U.S. Trade Representative and former Secretary of Labor.
Ira Shapiro – Clinton era, chief negotiator for Japan and Canada, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative; Author, “The Last Great Senate” and “Broken: Can the Senate Save Itself and the Country.”
Dr. Katherine Scott – Associate Historian, U. S. Senate; Author, “Reining in the State: Civil Society” and “Congress in the Vietnam and Watergate Eras”, and Robert Byrd chapter in “Leadership in the U.S. Senate.”
Dr. Lee Annis – Montgomery College Professor of History; Author of “Howard Baker: Conciliator in an Age of Crisis” and “Big Jim Eastland: The Godfather of Mississippi.”
Copies of Ira Shapiro’s books and those by Drs. Scott and Annis, including “Leadership in the U.S. Senate: Herding Cats,” in which both contributed chapters, will be on sale after the event. All proceeds will go to the College’s Connie Morella Scholarship Fund.
