Montgomery College Awarded $100,000 from GlaxoSmithKline
Grant will establish an endowed scholarship for biotechnology and bio-manufacturing students
Montgomery College received a $100,000 grant from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a leading pharmaceutical and healthcare company that recently acquired Rockville-based biotechnology company, Human Genome Sciences (HGS). The grant will create the GSK Biotechnology & Bio-manufacturing Endowed Scholarship to support Montgomery College’s efforts to help ensure a highly-trained pipeline of employees for the Maryland biotechnology workforce.
“Educating and training for 21st century jobs is essential to the long-term economic growth of our industry and our country,” said Mary Linda Andrews, Director, Community Partnerships, GlaxoSmithKline. “GSK is proud to partner with Montgomery College as they continue their tradition of providing state-of-the-art educational opportunity for students.”

The biotechnology program at Montgomery College is located on the Germantown Campus and provides state-of-the-art educational opportunities in applied biotechnology, bioscience, and bio-manufacturing, integrating laboratory and classroom instruction. Students may complete a certificate program or receive an associate of applied science degree, and are prepared to move directly into the workforce or transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree.
