Montgomery College and The Universities at Shady Grove will host the fifth annual College Scholarship Conference on Saturday, October 30 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Intended for high school students, their parents and Montgomery College students, the free event will provide information on financial aid and scholarship opportunities for college-bound and currently-enrolled college students. It will be held on The Universities at Shady Grove campus, located at 9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD 20850. The highlight of the conference will be the keynote address, “The Scholarship Workshop,” by Marianne Ragins. She will give advice on writing resumes and essays for scholarship applications. She will also talk about how to find available scholarships and how to use the Internet in one’s search. Ragins is the author of the book “Winning Scholarships for College: An Insider’s Guide,” which provides scholarship information and details Ragins’ experience with earning more than $400,000 in scholarships. Using scholarships and other free aid, she paid for her bachelor’s degree from Florida A&M University and her M.B.A. from The George Washington University. Ragins owns The Scholarship Workshop, LLC, an educational consulting service. In addition, representatives from Montgomery College and area colleges and universities will provide information about the scholarship search process and specific information regarding their financial aid programs.
