Montgomery College Earns Excellence in Recycling Award
For eighth time in the last 11 years, Montgomery College received an Excellence in Recycling Award for its recycling efforts in 2010. The award was presented recently during Montgomery County’s Recycling Awareness Week.
During the week, the Montgomery County Division of Solid Waste Services recognizes businesses, multi-family properties and individuals for their contributions to the county’s recycling efforts. Businesses receive recycling awards when they exceed the county goal of recycling 50 percent of their generated waste. Montgomery College recycled nearly 70.6 percent of the total waste leaving the premises. Required recycling materials such as cans, plastic containers, paper, metal, and yard waste together with a range of voluntary recycling materials such as batteries, furniture, light tubes, and oils, helped total more than 1,846 tons kept from the landfills.
According to the Division of Solid Waste Services, “the management and staff at all three campuses at Montgomery College continually emphasize the importance of recycling.”
