Montgomery College Students to Perform ‘The Vagina Monologues’ Proceeds from Production on March 30 to Benefit Women’s Organizations
The Montgomery College Women’s Studies Program will present a special student production of “The Vagina Monologues,” by Eve Ensler, on Wednesday, March 30 at 7 p.m. The performance will take place at the College’s Theater Arts Arena, located in the Theatre Arts Building on the Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street, Rockville.
“The Vagina Monologues” is a collection of monologues that Eve Ensler wrote after interviewing hundreds of women. The resulting play celebrates women and works to raise awareness about the issues that affect women, such as sexuality, relationships, and domestic violence. These intimate portraits reveal women’s innermost thoughts and feelings about their lives and their bodies. “The Vagina Monologues” contains frank language and subject matter and is intended for a mature audience.
Approximately 10 students are involved in all roles of the production from acting to behind-the-scenes. Students and faculty are team-coaching and team-directing the production.
Tickets cost $12 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors. To request tickets, e-mail the Montgomery College Women’s Studies Program at: email@example.com.
All proceeds will go to organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. The V-Day Spotlight this year is on the women and girls of Haiti. All funds raised through the Spotlight Campaign will be used to support a revolutionary national campaign in Haiti lead by a coalition of women activists – including longtime V-Day activist Elvire Eugene – that will address sexual violence through art, advocacy and legal services. The performance will have ASL interpretation. For disability-related accommodations, call Genevieve Carminati, program coordinator, at 240-567-7446.
