Montgomery College Names Brett Eaton as New Director of Communications
Montgomery College has appointed Brett Eaton as the new director of communications. He will manage the collegewide Office of Communications, which includes the areas of media relations, marketing and creative services/publications. He will join Montgomery College on January 5, 2009. Eaton has an extensive background in planning and managing strategic communications, marketing and public relations programs, including more than seven years of senior level communications experience with the Department of Defense.
Most recently, he served as the deputy director of administration and program support for Washington Headquarters Services in Arlington, Virginia. In that role, he supervised national and international public relations and communications efforts surrounding the Pentagon Renovation Program (PENREN). He was the primary spokesperson for the $2 billion, 20-year project. In addition, he was responsible for multiple DoD Web sites, newsletters, emergency communications and public outreach initiatives.
“Brett Eaton’s breadth of experience in strategic communications and public relations will be a valuable asset to Montgomery College,” said Dr. Brian Johnson, president of Montgomery College. “Working with our team, he will help us communicate more effectively on a local and national level in the years ahead.”
Prior to the Washington Headquarters Service, Eaton worked for two years as a communications specialist for 3D/International in Arlington, Virginia. During that time, he assisted with the public affairs efforts for PENREN. Eaton also worked at Westat, Inc. in Rockville, Maryland, where he served various government clients including the Department of Justice, Environmental Protection Agency and National Education Association.
