Scholarship Fund Established at Montgomery College In Memory of County Councilmember Marilyn Praisner
Gift to MC Foundation Will Provide Support for Women Returning to College
As a lasting tribute to former Montgomery County Councilmember Marilyn Praisner, who passed away February 1, 2008, and has been succeeded in office by her husband, Don Praisner, the Praisner family recently established the Marilyn J. Praisner Scholarship to support students at Montgomery College.
Each year a scholarship will be awarded to a woman attending Montgomery College as a returning adult student, under guidelines that have been established for the fund. The first scholarship will be awarded this fall.
“We are extremely proud to receive this gift in memory of Marilyn Praisner, a person who was such a great public servant in our community and one who was so passionate about supporting education,” said Doug Firstenberg, chair of the Montgomery College Foundation, Inc. “This is a wonderful way for her family and friends to ensure that her legacy will live on as this scholarship helps to make educational dreams come true for students who choose to return to college and improve their lives.”
“Marilyn truly understood how valuable education is in helping women achieve their life goals, especially for those women who are returning to school,” said Don Praiser, Montgomery County Councilmember. “This scholarship will stand as a testament to her passion for education.”
