At 26-0, Montgomery College Volleyball Team Heads to Region Championships with an Eye on Nationals
Raptors Volleyball to Compete in the Region XX Tournament at the College of Southern Maryland, November 2-4

WHAT: The Raptors are currently riding a Montgomery College-record winning streak having won all 26 of their regular season matches to finish undefeated headed into the postseason. The latest NJCAA Division II poll ranks the Raptors #19 in the nation. They are the only unbeaten team in the Top 20 and have only dropped three sets all season.

This is the first perfect season in the long history of Montgomery College (MC) athletics. The Raptors enter the NJCAA DII Region XX Tournament as the #1 seed. If MC wins the regional tournament, they will advance to the Division II national championships held in Charleston, West Virginia, Nov. 15-17.

WHO: Among the local standouts for MC, 6-foot-2 Northwest High (Germantown) grad, Anna Chepurnova, leads all Maryland junior colleges (MDJUCO) in kills and hitting percentage. Teammate Skyler Thiessen, a graduate of Gaithersburg High School, leads MDJUCO in digs. Former Damascus star Isabel Nelligan has had a stellar freshman campaign with 227 kills. Another MC player from the Northwest High state championship teams, setter Talyah Huss, is among the nation’s leaders in assists with 420.

WHEN: The region tournament is Friday, November 2 through Sunday, November 4; The team will depart for regionals at [approximately] noon on Friday from the Rockville Campus. Media are invited to talk to the players and Head Coach Tori Kenno, a Montgomery College alum.

WHERE: The Region XX tournament is being played at the College of Southern Maryland in La Plata.
