Andy Field, a veteran reporter for ABC News Radio, recently visited the Homer S. Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education (GITE) at the College’s Rockville Campus. Field, who lives in Silver Spring, did a piece that focused on the alternative to a standard pathway to a four-year degree – learning a trade. Field interviewed students and staff, as well as Ed Roberts, the dean of applied technologies and Gudelsky Institute. Representatives of one of the College’s main industry partners, Shapiro and Duncan Mechanical Contractors of Rockville, Maryland, were also present to discuss local workforce needs and opportunities. Paul Tse, who is a project manager for Shapiro and Duncan, completed the classroom instruction for his HVAC apprenticeship program in the Gudelsky Institute and talks about the benefits of apprenticeship training.
