Ensemble Español Brings “Flamenco Passion” to Montgomery College’s Cultural Arts Center, Feb. 16
Spanish Dance Theater Will Perform Two Shows, Including One for Children and Families
The Cultural Arts Center at Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus welcomes Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theatre on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 8 p.m. as part of the center’s “Main Stage Guest Artist Series.” The Cultural Arts Center is located at 7995 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring.
This lavish performance of original Spanish classical ballets, folkloric suites and fiery flamenco dramas will delight audiences with its extraordinary choreography and savvy stagecraft.
As part of the College’s “Around the World Passport Series,” Ensemble Español will perform for children and families of all ages at an 11 a.m. show, also in the Cultural Arts Center.
In residence at Northeastern Illinois University, under the artistic direction and leadership of founder Dame Libby Komaiko and Associate Artistic Director Irma Suárez Ruiz, Ensemble Español is internationally recognized as the premier center for Spanish dance, music and culture in America. The company is comprised of 40 dancers, singers and instrumentalists performing Spanish dance culture in all its forms—from flamenco to traditional folkloric to classical renaissance to the 21st century.
In 1983, Komaiko became the first American artist to be decorated with Spain’s highest honor, Lazo de Dama (Dame’s Ribbon) of the Order of Isabella the Catholic for her artistic, cultural and educational work throughout the US.
