Discuss and Sign His Latest Book, “The Last Great Senate”
The Montgomery College Department of History and Politics will host a lecture and book signing by author Ira Shapiro Tuesday, March 6, 2012 in the Theatre Arts Arena on the Rockville Campus. The lecture begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Shapiro will speak about his latest book, “The Last Great Senate,” which focuses on the civility and statesmanship of senators in the late 1970s including Howard Baker, Ted Kennedy, Edmund Muskie, Jacob Javits and Robert Byrd. Shapiro served on the staffs of five Democratic senators including Jay Rockefeller, Gaylord Nelson, and Byrd and was a trade negotiator with ambassador status in the Clinton administration.
Along with Chris Van Hollen and Mark Shriver, Shapiro was a formidable, yet unsuccessful, challenger for the 2002 Democratic nomination for the House of Representatives.
Shapiro will be available to sign books after the lecture. Attendees can purchase books at the event courtesy of MC Books & More. For more information, please contact Dr. Lee Annis at 240-567-7281 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
