Montgomery College Summer Dinner Theatre Serves Up Lively Musicals

Students to Bring ‘Brigadoon,’ ‘Crazy for You’ to Stage This Summer

This summer, Montgomery College will bring two acclaimed musicals to the stage—“Brigadoon” and “Crazy for You”—for its Summer Dinner Theatre performances, starting June 18. “Brigadoon” performances will take place June 18-20, and June 24-27. “Crazy for You” performances are July 16-17, 23-25, 30-31 and August 1. Sunday Matinees are June 20, 27 for “Brigadoon” and July 25, August 1 for “Crazy for You.” In the first production, “Brigadoon,” two American travelers find themselves in the mystical town of Brigadoon, where things seem as they were 200 years ago. You will be enchanted with music by Alan Jay Lerner and lyrics by Frederick Loewe in this magical musical. Swordsmen, dances, and weddings surround the score that includes such favorites as “Almost like Being in Love,” “The Heather on the Hill,” and “Waitin’ for My Dearie.”

The second show of the Summer Dinner Theatre season, “Crazy for You,” combines 19 George & Ira Gershwin tunes and hilarious dialogue from Ken Ludwig with the glamour of New York City, the dust of Nevada, high-kicking showgirls and cowboys. The performance is the perfect mix of comedy and music with songs such as “Embraceable You,” “I Can’t Be Bothered Now,” “I Got Rhythm,” “Someone to Watch Over Me.”

Montgomery College’s Summer Dinner Theatre, celebrates 34 years as an annual training ground for both aspiring musical theatre performers and behind-the-scenes artists, who apply or audition for the summer productions. Performers include Montgomery College theatre and music majors, visiting students from universities, talented high school students, and members of the community. Those chosen to participate enroll at Montgomery College for 10 weeks of hands-on education in everything from singing and dancing, to costumes and lighting.

For some students, Summer Dinner Theatre marks the first time they have worked alongside professionals to learn the craft of acting and theatre production, while performing with a live orchestra. In true dinner theatre fashion, the students also serve as waiters and support staff at the performances.

Tickets for Summer Dinner Theatre are $41.50 for adults and $31.50 for children ages 12 and under. Prices include the performance and a full dinner buffet.
